The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Hong Kong Wetland Park, Hong Kong Arts Centre and Public Art Hong Kong jointly present “My Soil, My Land”, a community project that involves 500 students from the primary schools in the Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai districts. On 2 December 2006, a sunny morning, the students made use of the soil gathered from the newly opened Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai to create a piece ceramic art on their own, collectively illustrating the idea of Tin Shui Wai as a happy community. This programme represents the largest outdoors art activity ever took place at the Hong Kong Wetland Park since its grand opening.
After this session of onsite creation, the 500 creative pieces will be subsequently fired and displayed at the Hong Kong Wetland Park in early 2007. As Mr. Louis Yu (Executive Director, Hong Kong Arts Centre) has pointed out, it would be a wonderful experience if this project develops into a continuous art education programme in the near future to nurture more young artists in Hong Kong.
